Harriet Quimby was the first woman in history to ever receive a flying license in the United States back in 1911. Harriet Quimby was born in 1875.

She was the first woman to also fly over the English Channel. It is said that Harriet Quimby wore a purple flying suit. After only 11 months of having her flying license Harriet Quimby was killed in a flight demonstration in Massachusetts on July 1, 1912.
