Northern Illinois University shooting today took the lives of five people and injured several more. The shooter took his own life after opening fire in a lecture hall on the campus of NIU. The shooting happened around 2 pm today.
Northern Illinois University canceled all classes shortly after the shooting took place. 18 victims were taken to the hospital in DeKalb, Illinois. As of now there is no motive known by the police. The shooter was a former student at the University but was not currently enrolled.
Northern Illinois University shooting brings back memories of the recent shooting at Virginia Tech. It also raises questions if we are doing enough to protect students and securing public areas.
